Petition to Protect Allegheny National Forest

We hereby demand that commercial logging immediately stop in Allegheny National Forest. The US Forest Service must comply with applicable laws and revise the Forest Management Plan to address ongoing decline of black cherry and other tree species using management methods that work. 4+ decades of clearcut logging, herbicides, nitrogen-based fertilizers, and deer fencing have failed to create a healthy forest. These practices will not work. As demonstrated by legal precedent, the 16,541 acres of clearcutting proposed and/or approved within the last year requires preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement as required by law.
